Personal Ads – How They Evolved

Personal adsNewspapers used to have a dedicated category for personal ads and casual acquaintances. Personal ads appeared in newspapers even earlier, but they only became really well known after 1970. In the past there was a "Marriage" category, but at the time not everyone was ready to marry, so a category for casual dating ads was created. Marriage was the only established and recognized form of relationship between two people. It depended heavily on social conditions, and only over time did things change in this respect. Personal ads changed with them. The marriage announcement was renamed personal ads. Saturday was the day personal ads appeared in the newspaper. In Germany, the weekly newspaper Die Zeit was the best-known outlet for finding a partner.

Personal Ads – Replaced Today by Dating Sites

Not many people talk about it, but almost everyone does it: finding a partner online. Most singles use the internet in their search for a partner. If you believe the statistics, one in five relationships starts on a dating site. The internet also makes it possible for people who travel for work and have no chance to meet other singles to find the perfect partner. In Germany alone, more than eleven million singles live. Over 2,000 dating sites try to match these singles up. Among them are both free and paid providers. The paid providers are more serious and promise success in matters of love. But those who are more interested in an affair or a fling try their luck on the free dating sites. There are already dating sites that specialize in particular target groups. Whether man or woman, young or old, everyone finds what they're looking for on the internet. Finding love with one click is a trend that keeps getting more popular.
